I’m a little confused about the value of this website for teaching and learning. I understand the value of the pdf format for interchanging documents between users. The pdf file allows users a universal format to view documents regardless of their operating system. Virtually any file that can changed into a pdf format, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, and many others. Once the document is converted into the pdf format anyone who has Adobe Reader or Nitro PDF can view the document whether or not they have the original software program in which the document was created. Pdf conversion software is ubiquitous (in fact it’s free with Mac) and the reading software is free to any user. Teachers can use this tool to disseminate documents, reading assignments, and news information to a large group of students and parents in a format that is universally recognized.
One valuable tool on this website were the numerous books already converted into pdf format. With this new generation of learners who are so comfortable with computers (i.e. the digital natives) , the pdf version of books will be essential for teachers to meet learners on their turf!
